This past weekend, I spontaneously bought a flight up to Portland to visit Kennedy (see one of our last adventures here). I am so glad I did! Although it was a short trip, we made the best of it and got so lucky with beautiful weather. Spring seemed to be happening right before us. It’s been a while since I visited the Pacific Northwest and I always forget how much I love it, especially when it’s sunny.
We spent a good amount of time walking around to enjoy the sunshine. Her place is downtown with easy access to everywhere we wanted to go, which was amazing! I love that type of accessibility – it feels like the whole city is right at your fingertips.
Portland is one of its kind. It is quirky, creative, and energetic, yet laid back and unassuming. It celebrates the simple pleasures: beer, dog walking, pretty cocktails, and farmers’ markets.
We were able to participate, taking her dog down to the waterfront for walks and exploring their big weekend market. The market is right by the water with probably a hundred vendors offering all types of stuff. I was amazed by the magnitude of it all! I didn’t even know downtown was big enough to host such a gathering, but everyone was out and about enjoying the good weather.
We browsed past stalls selling art, jewelry, kettle-corn, you name it. Each stand seemed unique, yet emitted the same type of funky and relaxed energy I felt all around town.
And, of course, no tour of Portland could be complete without Voodoo Doughnut. I actually had never tried the famous donuts until this trip. We tried to go after visiting the market, but the line was so long. We weren’t going to spend the sunny day waiting so we came back in the early morning before my flight. No line and we enjoyed the pink sunrise to go with our pink donuts.
Thank you Portland for a beautiful weekend. Here’s to hoping I can stay a little longer next time around!
