This Sunday, I drove up north of Berkeley to visit a good friend from school. We met at Flowerland, a nursery, where she worked over the holidays. She’d told me about it before, but there was nothing that could possibly prepare me.
I was excited the moment I arrived. Mini succulents sat by the entrance, pulling passerby from the sidewalk into Flowerland’s oasis. This wasn’t your average nursery. This was a little plant heaven! I could have stayed there all morning. It was much bigger than I anticipated and we spent a good amount of time wandering. I don’t have a great interest in gardening, but my mom loves to so I’ve grown to appreciate and admire it.
The nursery is filled with drought tolerant plants, herbs, succulents, and lots of other things I didn’t recognize. I’m a big flower person, but there was something peaceful about all the greenery.
Their gift shop was another adventure on its own.
I’m a sucker for stationary, as seen here, and they had the cutest collection. There were all types of things! Jewelry, candles, books, and artwork were displayed on the country-style shelves, while colorful planters of all sizes lined the walkways.
But most importantly, coffee…
What I loved most had to be the Airstream trailer that was converted into a coffee bar. I mean how much better can it get?! It definitely brought a sense of warmth and coziness to the nursery, giving it a whole other dimension. There were benches and chairs scattered throughout the nursery, which made the place feel very homey (and the tasty Highwire Coffee lattes didn’t hurt).
If you’re ever exploring the Berkeley area, I strongly recommend a visit. I’m already thinking about when to go back next. I bet you never thought about how good a warm cup of coffee and a nice walk through a nursery might make you feel!
