The other day, Theo and I went out for a casual dinner at Sushi Tomo! The parents were out of town and we decided to treat ourselves. Despite living in the Bay Area with an abundance of international cuisines, we’ve never really had a favorite sushi spot in the area. Most places are overpriced for the quality of fish so my family ends up buying fresh sashimi from an Asian market to eat at home. Until now!
I recently ate at Sushi Tomo in Palo Alto with a few coworkers and had a great experience. It is a small, no-frills sushi spot with good fish and reasonable prices. The crew is kind, creating a wonderfully friendly environment. When Theo and I agreed on sushi, I grabbed the opportunity to take him to this newly discovered spot.
We love seaweed salad and kicked off the meal with THREE helpings, as well as a poke salad. My favorite thing to get at sushi is salmon so Theo indulged me in picking the Salmon Lover as our first roll. And, just as I hoped, it came filled with so much salmon!
For our second roll, Theo chose another salmon-based one (lucky me!). This roll was seared salmon on top of spicy tuna and cucumber. We watched the chef blaze the surface of the salmon and knew we were going to love it. I will eat almost anything seared and it was DELICIOUS! I think I enjoyed this one better than the first.
All in all, we had a great meal! Sometimes, a low-key meal out is all you need. I love the modesty and simplicity of this place. Looks like I have a favorite local sushi spot after all…
