Recently, a couple coworkers and I ventured to The Sea by Alexander’s Steakhouse for happy hour. When one of the managers and I bonded over our love of food, she suggested we try The Sea together. She had been previously, but was happy to have another opportunity to go back!
We kicked off happy hour with Pink Panthers (fun name, right?), a delicious grapefruit cocktail. Then came the appetizers. They served all types of interesting things so I was definitely excited. We ordered Hamachi shots, a half dozen oysters, seared foie gras, lobster rocks, grilled octopus, and truffle fries.
Everything was really good and beautifully presented. The Hamachi shots came with fresh fish, truffled ponzu, and avocado, then spiced up with some ginger and jalapeño. My other favorite was the grilled octopus. I love octopus and they prepared it with butter beans, lemon, and arugula. I’d say the lobster rocks were the most interesting dish we ordered. I think they were essentially breaded lobster bites that were black from truffles. They did not look appetizing, but they were so good. Especially in an almond purée!
We ended our “happy hour” (which felt more like a meal) with a lychee panna cotta. The panna cotta was more on the gelatin side so not your traditional custard texture. Paired with guava and rhubarb coulis, it was definitely a tasty and flavorful dessert.
The food was delicious. The Sea is a great place to treat yourself to an upscale happy hour for foodies!
