This summer, Matt and I planned a mini getaway to Tiburon before he left for his new job in D.C.. With no specific itinerary for the day, we decided to make a pit stop in the city for lunch. Hog Island Oyster Co. has been on my list for a while and it did not disappoint.
First, we ordered some drinks. We usually wouldn’t do this over lunch, but…we were on vacation! We kicked off the meal with some fresh oysters. Because I just couldn’t get enough, I also opted for the oyster stew entree. And it was such a good choice! It might have been one of the best stews I have ever had (and that’s saying a lot because my mom makes great stews).
We got to Tiburon in the early afternoon. The weather was absolutely incredible with bright, blue skies and a nice breeze. I hadn’t been to Tiburon since I was a kid so it was great to rediscover it all. It is a beautiful, peaceful town – perfect for a relaxing escape.
My dad recommended we check out Guaymas for dinner and, since we love Mexican food, we went for it!
I mean, what’s better than some sangria and a big bowl of guacamole? The ingredients were flavorful and fresh. I don’t think Guaymas is quite as good as it used to be in its prime, but we still had a great time. It’s location is pristine. We enjoyed our meal right by the water, watching commuters hop off the understated, sleepy ferry.
After our meal, we walked along the water and took our time enjoying the city view. The night ended with a nightcap at our hotel’s cozy tavern: a dram of whiskey for him and a glass of wine for me! All in all, it was the ideal trip for us to unwind and enjoy each other’s company before the big move ahead.
